Taipei Double-Step for 4/27!
This is a
Double Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 883)
This is with two benches, both horizontal, one directly behind the other
with enough space to stand between them. I always start the patterns
leading right first, so if I don't say so below, lead right first!
It's easy to teach on the front bench -- then when your class "has" all
the moves, take it front & back.
- 2 right basics, grapevine right & left (16 counts)
- Repeat with left lead (16 counts).
- When they're ready, take the first grapevine right diagonally back,
and grapevine left to be behind the back bench, still facing the front
of the room. Do the 2 left basics there, grapevine left/right
diagonally forward to end up behind the front box (in your starting
position).
- 2 alternating knees to corners, repeater knee. Repeat lead left.
(32 counts)
- When they're ready, take it one knee on front box, one on back box
(facing left wall), repeater on front. Then one knee on back, one on
front, repeater on back.
- 1 "L" step off the end (4 counts) (step right lead, step off the left
side of bench).
- Across the top (4 counts)
- 2 ham curls around the end of bench (8 counts, and now you're facing
the left wall, in front of the front bench).
- 3 over-the-tops, one turnstep (16 counts).
- When they're ready, try: over the top on front bench, over the top on
back bench, over the top on back bench, and instead of the turnstep,
do one knee up on front bench. Then you're ready for the 1/2 "L" step
leading left ,facing the back of the room, on the back bench.
- 2-knee repeater, walk around behind the bench 4 (so you're in front
of the front bench and facing the left wall -- 8 counts)
- "Indecision" (up, straddle, up, and off toward back of room - 8 counts)
- Repeat the 2-knee repeater/walk around 4 on the back bench, still
facing the left wall, and heading toward the back of the room. (8 counts)
- Repeat the indecision on the back bench coming forward (8 counts)
- [When teaching this you might want to teach 4 sets of 2-knee
repeaters/walk around on the front bench, then 4 sets of indecisions
just on the front bench, so as to keep the lead legs balanced. If you
teach it as 2-knee repeater going forward and indecision coming back
each time you're always leading right on the repeater and left on the
indecision -- it only evens out when you're using both benches.]
- Around-the-world (knee up, straddle, knee up, turn, knee up straddle,
knee up tap down, then on back box step right -- you should be facing
the right wall at this point -- and repeat the around the world on the
back box -- knee up, straddle, knee up turn, knee up, straddle, knee
up, tap down. ) (32 counts)
- Repeat the around the world stepping left onto the back box first for
the knee, straddle, knee turn, etc. and ending up coming around the
front box ending with the knee up, tap down facing the right wall once
again! (32 more counts)
- [You can teach the around the world just on the front bench, once
around, tap down and reverse it to lead left once around.]
- 2-knee repeater on front, step down 2 and up on back bench 2 (8 counts)
- 3 lunges (left, right, left) on back box, step down between boxes and
tap. (8 counts)
- Repeat all, beginning stepping left onto back box for 2-knee repeater
and then down, up onto front box for lunges (16 counts)
- [To teach this on the front box, do a 2-knee repeater stepping right
and facing the left wall, step down 2, turn and step up onto the front
box again facing the right wall for 3 lunges, tap down, repeat lead
left with the 2-knee repeater facing the right wall first.]
- 4 alternate kicks -- front bench, back, front, back (16 counts)
- 4 alternating knees up on front bench only (can do a hop-knee-hold
rather than regular 2-count knee lift)
- 2 right "V" steps (step out, out onto box and in, in back onto floor)
(8 counts)
- 2 legs back leading right, turning slightly to face left wall (or one
hop-turn, walk around the bench 4) (8 counts)
- 4 "A" steps (over the top stepping forward onto the bench, backward
off of the bench, etc. -- do 2 on the front bench, 2 on the back bench
(16 counts)
- Repeat starting with the "V" steps leading left, facing the back of
the room, on the back bench.
I hope you enjoy this! It's much easier than it looks in writing! Print it
out and try it on your step -- pretty easy, huh?! Hopefully you'll find it
fun, too. If Bill Armstrong reads this, please send me your email address,
as I tried to reply to yours and it won't go through (computer genius that
I am, I can't figure out why not).
Thanks to Greg for organizing this page for all of us!
Happy stepping.
