I begin teaching this combo with the walk up and V-step, then do a walk back with a V-step, to give people time to get the feel of it in their muscle memory. I then teach the grapevines and give them the option of turning them into chases by adding a hop in the middle. I work the two together so that the walk up with a V-step is followed by the grapevines, then the same pattern is repeated with the walk back.
Seperately, I teach the step knee 3 times with a march; I have the class repeat this combination with both leads. When that is comfortable, I break the two sides up using the squats. Then, I add a travel up and back with the knees.
Last, but not least, I put the two combos together, the first moving up and the second moving back.
I believe in using low impact high intensity movements and giving the option of controlled impact power movements. This combo is good for many levels of clients because you have options for impact and power...giving a down and up feel to the V-step, adding power to the chases, and making the 2 count march a quick jog.
Enjoy!
