Joanna's Vortex Step
This is a
Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 403)
Part I
- Turn-Straddle 2x (right foot lead)
- Turn-Squat 2x (Start as a turnstep (count 1-2) but stop on top of the
step and squat quickly (count 3-4) then unload the foot and hop
(counts 5-6) to finish as a regular turnstep would (count 7-8)
- Diagonal or corner to corner 1x
- Tap up tap down or hop to power up 1x
- 3 Repeater knee 1x (moving back)
- 3 Repeater side leg (abduction) 1x (moving back)
- 3 Repeater ham curl 1x (moving back)
- Turn-Straddle 2x (left foot lead)
- Turn-Squat 2x (You will be facing back wall when you are on the
squat part)
- Diagonal 1x
- Tap up tap down or hop 1x
- 3 Repeater Knee 1x
- 3 Repeater Side Leg 1x
- 3 Repeater HamCurl 1x (Don't move back on this set so you are ready
for the next segment)
Part II
- 1/2 L-step (off left end of step)(right foot lead)
- Across the top 3x (lengthwise)
- 3 Repeater Around the Corner (repeater around the corner- (unload
that foot baby!) so you are facing left side of room
- Over the top (widthwise)
- U-turn (like a turnstep and an about face combined so you are
facing right end of room now)
- 5 Repeater Combo 1x (Knee, Side, Hamcurl, Side, Knee)
- Over the top 1x
- 5 Repeater combo 1x
- Over the top 1x
- Repeat sequence on left lead
Part III
- 3 Repeater Walk About 4x (I usually start with a traveling 3 repeater
and then add on to where we work the repeater around the end of the
step to far front corner and on count 7-8 we walk on top of our step
toward the juxtaposed corner; this makes a figure 8 when you do 2 sets
of repeaters, doing 4 sets of repeaters will form 2 figure 8s)
Part IV
- 2 Repeater Knee facing side (right foot lead) (on count 5-6 on floor,
count 7-8 on top of step and...)
- Lunges off the sides 3X (right-left-right) exit left to floor
- Over the Top 3x
- 1/2 Hop Turn 1x (left foot lead and unload that foot baby!) or if
you're feeling whipped at this point you can walk around your step
(this would be toward left side of room)
- When you come out of the hop turn you will be set up to do the
sequence on other lead foot
Step is Horizontal. This is the finished product of this routine. I work up
to this and show lots of modifications because I have such a wide range of
experience in my steppers.
