Boxing Step
First I teach the combination with normal arms and legs, then I show
the boxing technique. Each combination is a 32 count self-reversing
pattern. The combinations are very basic, because the emphasis is on
the boxing, not on choreography.
Combo 1
- Right lead
- 1 Basic, 1 V-step (8)
- Knees around the world (16)
- 1 T-step (also called a W or L) (8)
- Repeat left lead
Boxing Technique:
- 1 Basic - jab, cross
- 1 V - uppercuts as you step up, guard up when you step down
- Knees around the world - speed bag
- T-Step, hook on first knee off to the side, slip a punch with
guard up instead of the middle knee, uppercut on the knee back up.
Combo 2
- Right lead
- Left corner knee (4)
- Step kick to the front 2x (8)
- Right corner knee (4)
- Left corner spin-decision lunge (8)
(Up up lunge 2x side to side, exit and immediately move to the
opposite corner, you are now facing the back wall on the left corner)
- Over the top, abductor lift (8)
- Repeat left lead
Boxing Technique:
- Corner knee - hook same arm as knee that goes up
- 2 Kicks to the front - karate kicks front

I find that using the boxing technique while stepping has made the students in my class sweat more, and get their heart rates up
higher than by adding power moves or a lot of lunges and squats. This
is a good alternative for those students who cannot do a lot of
jumping or lunging because of bad knees. Please feel free to email
me with questions or if you have other ideas/thoughts about boxing
on the step!
