Keep On Jumpin
This is a
Cycling pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 3416)
My classes really enjoy doing jumps (rising and lowering from a
seated position in a rhymthic fashion). I try to make these jumps
as interesting as possible. I do so by providing appropriate
music, such as "Jump" by Van Halen or "Jump" by the Pointer
Sisters. Whenever the word "jump" is sung, the students must
stand then immediately sit so they can prepare for the next
"jump."
- I also "empower" the students and allow them to yell
the words jump and sit. They really get into it!
- I also lik e breaking the class into groups (number of
groups depends on the attendance). I start with everyone
in a seated position, then have group 1 stand, then 2,
etc. You can get very creative with this and have the
class do the wave (like at football games), where group 1
stands and immediately sits, and as soon as group 1 sits,
group 2 stands and immediately sits, etc. You can also have
group 1 and 3 stand, while group 2 is sprinting and then switch.
- I also like to vary my class by changing the positioning of
the bicycles (our bikes our stored in a closet and have to
be removed and set up for every class). I like creating a
pyramid, where I am the tip and the rest of the bikes fan
out behind me (I use the flight of a bird as visualization
when we are set up in this manner). I keep the class
wondering how the bikes will be set up from class to class.
