Geography Lesson

This is a Cycling pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 5962)

I've labeled this series of cycling classes geography lesson. I read up on a particular country and memorize some brief details as to the country's history, politics, economics, artists and other interesting tidbits just to whet the interest of my students. I then place emphasis on the geography of this particular country including such particulars as mountanous ranges, deserts, forest, plains etc. and try to incorporate a particular ride to correspond to specific terrain or physical features of that country's geography. This allows me to tailor each session according to what I want to accomplish (eg. long steep climb up Mount Everest or going off road on the Gobi desert). I think it makes the ride more interesting and allows us to learn something about other countries. Occassionally I bring handouts pertaining to the country I have selected including maps.

I hope this stimulates other ideas for themed rides. I appreciate all the imput from others and especially the author of this web site for presenting such a valuable service to us.
