Riding With the Gods

This is a Cycling pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 3967)

I came up with this theme listening to Led Zep's song Going to California (something in the lyrics about the "god got a punch in the nose"...).

First, let me thank all of you for the great drills I've borrowed for this ride.

Begin with standard warmup (4 or 5 minute song). Then "Stairway to Heaven" with a moderate seated then standing climb that increases with speed and resistance as the music gets louder and more intense (visualize a climb to heaven...the gods are expecting us and supplying us with all the Oxygen we need).

When we reach the top, we are in the land of the Roman gods. Next is a speed play (see 2+mile race) tour of the land. The markers for increasing tension are Zeus throwing lightning bolts (because we did not greet him properly), Cyclops chasing us and Aprodite and Eros making out.

There is a drill of "lifts" (cycle reebok term for Jumps?) to jump over a bunch of sleeping gods. (don't wake them up).

Poseidon is the god of the seas and he get's angry at us for waking him up. We go through some wind resistance assuming heavier tension and a freezed aero position for heavy gusts that last about 20 seconds.

To Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", we do the drill Blow Chunks. We get into the middle of a fight between Prometheus, the god who gave humans fire, and Zeus, who loves to use lightning bolts as weapons. The aero positions are for dodging balls of fire and lightning.

I like to match my tempo of cycling to the tempo of the music as much as possible. Things like double time during the chorus of a moderately tempoed song can be a challenge with moderate to heavy tension.

Thanks again for all the great ideas. Hope this sparks some creative juices in you!
