Tried and True
This is a
Hi/Lo pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 4006)
This is a self-reversing, 32-count pattern. You can use both
high- and low-impact moves, or modify to all low-impact (but
high intensity).
- Walk up four counts, right-left-right-left (4)
- Step touch 2x (step right, tap left, step left, tap right) (4)
- Walk back four counts, right-left-right-left (4)
- Jumping jack 2x (4)
- V-step 2x (8)
- Mambo (right lead) (4)
- 1/2 Mambo and shuffle to the right (some call this a
cha-cha-cha) (4)
The shuffle brings you on to the left lead. You are now ready to
repeat the combination on the left (walk up four counts,
left-right-left-right . . .)
I like this combination because the transitions are smooth, and
the pattern can be low or multi impact. You can modify it in a
number of ways, including:
*Instead of Jumping jack 2x, squat with the right lead.
The count is still four beats.
Then, when you are on the left lead, squat to the left.
*Instead of the step touch, substitute a step knee lift 2x,
pony 2x, step out-out and hop together. It is all the same
four beats.
*For beginners, you may want to turn this into a 64-count
pattern by:
- Walking up and back 4x (this alone will be 32 counts)
- V-step 4x (16 counts)
- Mambo 3x (12 counts)
- 1/2 Mambo shuffle (4 counts).
I have been teaching aerobics for 12 years, but this is my
first attempt at trying to describe a pattern solely with
words. Whew! I worked up a sweat!
