Mambo Rock!! (Sonia's #4)

This is a Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 8234)

Step is horizontal. Directions are for right lead - you are on the south side facing North. 32 counts, self-reversing, but can be done continuously for variation. Basic moves are given with options in parenthesis. Choreography at end. Please email any questions! I love to hear from you! I use a map formation for my directions:

Choreography Combo 1

Shuffle turns: (1,2) Keep lead foot on step, other foot on floor, shuffle along the step (3,4) turn on the floor to repeat in the other direction.

Spirals: (1,2) Go over the top (3,4) instead of tapping down you turn so that your lead side is to the step. Repeat to take you back over, turning again to maintain lead.

Split lunges: With side to step: (1,2) Up right, up left (3,4,5,6) lunge back and up right, lunge back and up left (7,8) exit right and exit left on the north side.

Choreography Combo 2

On this combo you need to walk to maintain your lead. Knee lift straddles: With side to step: (1) Up right, (2) lift left knee, (3) left foot to floor south, (4) right foot to floor north, (5) up left, (6) lift right knee, (7,8) right to floor on north side starting to turn to step, left to floor north side - you are now on the north side facing south.

Skippy knees or turning knees: Skippy knees are just 3 knee lifts on top in a skipping motion - exit to change lead on 7 and 8. To turn the skippy knees: (1) Step up right, (2) with a skip lift left knee and begin turning left (3) left steps down on top, (4) right knee lifts and completes turning to face south, (5) right foot steps to floor on short end, (6) lift left knee, (7,8) walk forward left and right on floor to face step on the south side again. This move will change your lead.

Choreography Combo 3

After the 2nd glute lift keep traveling so your lead side is to the step. Mambo Rock: On the floor - (1,2,3,4,5,6) Step forward with lead foot and transfer your weight back and forth on the balls of your feet - rock those hips! (7,8) lead foot steps back like the second part of a mambo and then step it into place.

Hesitation straddle: From the north side, with your right side to the step: (1,2) Up right, up left, (3,4) right foot down on south side, left foot down on north side, (5,6) right foot up, left foot up, (7,8) right foot exits south, left foot exits south.

Choreography Combo 4

Stomp Mambo: The first time through (when combo begins with right lead) your left side is to the step. (1) Stomp left on top of step as right lifts slightly, (2) right to floor on south, (3) left steps to north side as right lifts slightly, (4) right to floor on south, (5) left stomps on top of step as right lifts slightly, (6) right to floor south, (7) left mambos back on the south side and into place next to right foot. This is a stomp, straddle, stomp, mambo back!

Choreography Combo 6

Karate mambos: (1,2) Chug to step, (3,4) step back like a mambo, (5) lead foot steps up, (6) opposite leg karate kicks out to side, (7) kicking leg steps to floor and starts to turn (8) lead foot steps down and completes turn. Repeat with left lead.

Tap n clap repeater: (1) Right steps up, (2,3,4,5,6) tap left up and down clapping with each tap up, (7,8) exit left and right.

Choreography Combo 7

Butterfly: (1) Up right, (2) fly left leg over step, (3) left down on north side, (4) right taps down, (5) step up right, (6) fly left leg around/over (7,8) WALK down left and right. Repeat 1-8 with a left lead. Tap on the north side and walk on the south side! The walk takes you into position to make the second wing.
