Master drills go noodle
This is an
Aquatic pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 8305)
My class follows the master swim program who took the wrench
with them so I could not get the lane lines out. I used their
dry erase board plugging noodle moves into their drill slots,
and divided members up into the lanes as they arrived. The Prep
that I gave them was to allow spacing between each person and
travel up one side of the lane and back on the other side,
following the person in front of them. Yell beep, beep if
traveling backwards and the person in front of them is getting
to close. That said, here were the drills I used:
- Side flutter on your right- (noodle bar behind)
- Modified breast stroke- (noodle wrap around front
under arms. Legs lower for spine alignment)
- Dolphin kicks traveling backward - (noodle wrapped
behind. Legs out in front like in a lounge chair, keep
ankles and knees together kicking like a mermaid up
and down quick propelling you backward)
- Side flutter this time on your left
- Repeat above modified breast stroke
- Cross country ski- (noodle arch shape behind, ends in
the water with your arms) ski forward to the end and
backward ski backward to starting.
- Jumping jack sideways travel- (noodle arch shape behind,
ends in the water with your arms) face the same direction
to the end & back.
- L shape flutter backwards- (noodle wrapped behind, legs
in front like in a lounge chair. Body in an L shape head
up tall and flutter)
- Bike (ride the noodle like a bike, stay up tall, hands
sculling at sides)
- Sitting rows- (noodle still in bike position, keep knees
together and do not use legs. Arms start in front chest
level and pull to the back propeling you forward.
Our pool is 3 1/2 feet deep and it is a Junior Olympic.
Prewritten drills allowed me to coach from the sidelines. I
hope you can use the idea, email if you have questions.
