"Play the Circle Game"
This is a
Double Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 7248)
This is multi step pattern. The steps are placed
horizontally in the shape of a circle. There is a foot
in between so you can use the corners. The challenge is
in the differing heights and the traveling from one step
to another, or all the way around the inside or outside
of the circle. You can set up two circles if you have
nore than 12 students. I set up extra steps if I have
first timers who haven't taken the class before. It is
fairly advanced. Try not to give visual cues, as the
people who are directly across from you will be
confused.
Warm Up: I do a standard ten minute warm up using the
step.
Combo 1.
- Home step: Right lead V-step 4
- Right basic (this can be hopped into the
center) 4
- Left V-step 4
- Left basic (this can be hopped back) 4
Do this twice for 32 counts.
Combo 2.
- Home step. Right lead 4 kicks (or leap kicks)
corner to corner 16
- 16:
Walk around the left corner to the inside 4
1 Side leg lift 4
Over the top 4
Walk forward to the away step on your right 4
Repeat this sequence coming back to home step for
64 counts.
Combo 3.
- Back at home step right lead double knee
repeater 4
- Walk or jog to the away step 4
- Mambo left 2X 8
- Double knee left lead 4
- Walk or jog back to home 4
- Mambo right 2X 8
Do this twice for 64 counts.
Combo 4.
- Home step right lead 3 turn (or shuffle turns)
steps 12
- 12:
Power walk the length of 2 steps 4
3 Turnsteps left lead 12
Power walk 2 step lengths back to home 4
Combo 5.
- Over the top to inside 4
- 2 Jacks 4
- Grapevine right (further into center of circle) 4
- Grapevine back left 4
- 2 Jacks 4
- Over the top to outside 4
- 2 Jacks 4
- 2 More jacks that turn 180 degrees. 4
Repeat going over left lead for a total of 64
counts.
Combo 6.
- Right lead home step turn straddle 4
- 2 Side leg lifts on the inside (keep moving) 8
- 1 Side leg lift on the next step 4
- Turn straddle on the inside of next step 4
- 2 Side leg lifts back on the outside moving 8
- 1 Side leg lift home! 4
Sometimes I do the whole class sequence leading left
too.
I also add drills like "Tire Runs" straddling the
steps and lifting knees all the way around the circle. I
also do basic astride with "Jumps" up onto the step for
those who can handle it.
Be creative! You can think of loads of ideas for this
circle format.
My class really likes stepping in a circle. It is also
a great way to get to know your students, because you
are in an intimate circle instead of a spread out,
isolated class set up. Let me know how you like it!
Email me with any questions! It's hard to describe some
of these steps!
