Kauai Stretches from the IDEA convention

This is a [Other] pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 7795)

Of all the workshops I attended at the recent IDEA convention in Anaheim I was most impressed with this stretching technique as presented by Jean Gorrindo and her partner Paula (I don't have her last name in front of me - sorry!) It is called Active Isolated Stretching and the basis of it is holding stretch positions for 2 seconds, releasing and repeating the stretch - by doing this more synovial fluid is released into the joint, you are stopping before the stretch reflex can be invoked and interfere with your flexability - I have been using it for myself, with my private clients as well as in some of my classes and am incredibly impressed by the results.

An example would be a standard supine hamstring stretch: your non-working leg can have a bent knee or be straight on the floor - your working leg comes up straight, when you can no longer lift it pull in with your hands for 2 seconds then release and repeat from 8 - 20 times...It's helpful to have a rope or strap for the leg stretches but this particular one works okay with hands. Try it and see what you think. If you want more information, email me and I'll refer you to their site.
