Kauai - Summer Low Impact
This is a
Hi/Lo pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 12026)
This choreography is adapted from Petra Kolber's
presentation at this summer's IDEA convention in San Diego -
my students have been having a blast with it and it's
challenging enough that they (and I) are not sick of it
yet...For any of you who teach dance based choreography I
highly suggest you take any of Petra's workshops that are in
your area, she's a great presenter. Her site is
www.petrakolber.com.
- Grapevine right
- Step touch right/left (1/4 turn to the right)
- Grapevine left (or spin back)
- Tap out (weight is NOT on the tapping leg) right, left,
right, right
- Box step out right (this is very tricky since we don't
normally do box steps this way - right lead step out to
the right, left foot steps over, right steps back and
then left steps back) and box step over right (this is
your "normal" box step)
- Lunge (you do transfer weight on the lunges) right, left,
right and step across so the timing is like a single
single double but you do the step across which is a lot
of fun then repeat from the top with the left lead
- Right mambo front (cha cha cha in the middle turning to
the back)
- Left mambo back (cha cha cha and turn back to the front)
- Right box step over and move hips right, left, right, lift
your left knee on the 4 count
- Then do a quick mambo cross left lead (1 & 2) and right
lead (3 & 4), walking around yourself left lead and then
step touch right, left, right, right
- Start with the left mambo
There is more to this and I build it up very slowly - if you
have any questions about progressions and add ons, let me know,
I have found though that this can easily fill up 30 minutes
depending on the ability and focus of my students.
