Attack mode

This is a BoxAerobics pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 12087)

Starting with right foot lead:

For an advanced class, I add an elbow strike 'down' immediately before the switch, which gives the participants less time to change sides, hence they should be comfortable and coordinated to add this extra move. The elbow down can be either low or high...the low option being like a lunge with the legs as the elbow sweeps in a backward circle to deliver a powerful blow on the down-motion that would land between the opponent's scapulae. The high option excludes the lunge, thus is safer for fatigued participants or those with lower back problems/ maladies.

ADVANCED: right round (1-2), left front (3-4), left/right elbow strike (5-6), left elbow strike 'down' (7), switch (8).

Beginners can omit the elbow strike down and the extensions for the kicks, thus practicing chamber positions and still being able to follow along in an all-levels or intermediate/advanced class.

Imagery is key -- make sure they know that they're truly kickin' ass and where their kicks/punches are aimed (hip, abs, jaw, back). My classes love it, hope yours does, too!
