Making sure they work

This is a Cycling pattern from (pattern 10728)

What a great site! So many ideas, well here is one more. I hope it works for you as well as it does for me.

This works great for that one person in your class the never works where you want them to. Don't you just hate that!!

I start off with an easy flat (doubletime) about (4-5 tension) then we start adding tension about every 15 - 30 seconds depending on the time of the song, when they get to the biggest gear they can handle I tell them to stop adding. (I use techno music that speeds up then slows down). When the music slows down we half-time our legs and climb. Now you have a good gear to climb in. Most people never have enough tension to really challenge themselves during a climb. Using this method we have added at least 3 - 4 gears on the flat. Now they are ready to climb. When the music speeds up again we double-time our legs - then it will slow down again and we return to climb always keeping the same tension. It is a real challenge because they never get to release the tension throughout the song.


These songs work great for climb/interval - rolling hills. I take the first 2-3 minutes as a flat/sprint (adding tension) getting biggest gear they can handle at that cadence trying not to slow down. Then the music slows and we will half-time our legs to climb - the music will then speed up again and we will sprint. Usually you climb 2 times and sprint 3 times depending on the song.
