Get a Rise Out of 'Em!!!

This is a Step pattern from (pattern 13044)

I teach a class called "Triple Play". The class is 1 hour and 15 minutes in length. Each week we do three things, always mixing it up. It's a great class with a very large turnout. They never have time to get bored!!!

One class format I've used is to start out the class by having them put one more riser on than they normally use. I slow down the tempo of the music and we use light weights on the step. The moves are very basic, usually just a basic step with bicep curls, etc. After 15 minutes, I have them remove the extra riser, and pick up weights that are a bit heavier. I pitch the music up to normal step tempo and we work for 15 minutes, again keeping the steps pretty basic and combining the upper body work. Now, the level people normally use seems very easy! Finally, I have them remove a riser so that they're at one riser less than they normally use; they now use their heaviest weight. I keep the music at the regular tempo and we again keep the moves very basic and combine the upper body work.

If I'm feeling really ambitious, we jump rope between sets!
