Motion to Music #4

This is a Hi/Lo pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 13867)

Repeat left

Repeat left

*1-2-3 knee, reverse mambo -- march right/left/right, lift left knee on (4), step back on left (5), step forward on the spot right (6), step forward on left (7), step back on the spot right (8). So it's just march 3 with a knee lift followed by a mambo, except you start the mambo to the back. The next (8) counts are march 3 (moving back) with a right knee followed by a regular front mambo.

**Cross and cha cha -- cross right foot over left (facing left corner) (1), step back on left (2), cha-cha-cha (3-4), cross left over right (facing right corner) (5), step back on right (6), cha-cha-cha (7-8). Just a mambo cha-cha facing the corners.

***Moon walk -- Drag left foot back, then right foot back as you lift the opposite arm in front to shoulder height. I hesitate to say this, but think Michael Jackson. If you can't bear this, just march or jog back, but the Moon walk really is fun -- my members love it once they get it (although there is some initial groaning).

****Side bourree -- step out to the right side thrusting out right hip (1), step on the spot left (2), cha-cha-cha (3-4). Repeat to the left for your full 8 counts. On the cha-chas, you should cover some space moving sideways, so on (3) your right foot crosses behind your left, shift weight quickly to the left on the "and" (that's the syncopated part of the cha-cha-cha), and cross right in front of left on (4). This step is borrowed from ballet ("pas de bourree") but don't get too hung up on it. You can think of it as a side mambo cha-cha. Make it as coquettish (good word, huh?) and dancey as you like.

As an afterthought, I will mention that a "hip swivel" is sort of like a twist, just move the hips left/right/left/right after you grapevine to the right corner.

I have some different arm movements that I do with this routine, but after struggling through all of the above, you probably will just throw up your own arms in frustration if I go on any longer -- so just have fun making up your own. Or email me if you really want my suggestions. As always I will be happy to answer questions or clarify anything. Probably won't post again before Christmas so have great holidays everyone!
