Annarborsef #3 Mambo-straddle-mambo

This is a Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 12808)

Greetings, thanks to everyone for their contributions! & special thanks to whoever recently mentioned the quad knee + stomp move. I've been having fun with that one - I'll share that in another posting. Feel free to email any questions or comments. All my love to Kelly & Max! Cheers!!

Bench is horizontal, starting on right lead, facing bench on home side.

* This is a variation of the 2x 3-count mambo. I start my students on the home side going end-to-end doing a stomp-travel-stomp march - mambo-travel-mambo-march. The exact foot work is given here: right foot stomp on left end of bench, left foot lifts on stomp (1) down left (2), down right (3) on home side, travelling to right end of step left foot stomp on right end of bench, right foot lifts on stomp (4) down right (5), down left (6) on home side march x2 (7,8)

** When they have the mambo-travel-mambo-march above, have them add a regular split basic (8). Then explain that they are going to eliminate the 2 count march & go straight from the mambo-travel-mambo into a split basic with 3 lunges back (aka trench). The new foot sequence is as follows: right foot stomp on left end of bench, left foot lifts on stomp (1) down left (2), down right (3) on home side, travelling to right end of step left foot stomp on right end of bench, right foot lifts on stomp (4) down right (5), down left (6) on home side up right (7), up left (8) (facing front) lunge back right (9,10) lunge back left (11,12) lunge back right (13,14) down left (15), down right (16) Note: they are now on a left lead, so they can practice this 16 count sequence with alternating leads a few times to gain confidence.

For a more advanced variation, you can straddle between the 2 mambos, exiting on the away side of the bench. When doing this, the students will be naturally rotating counter-clockwise (when starting with a right lead). Tell them to keep rotating (turning around), so that the up right (7) and up left (8) moves complete a full 360 degree rotation, and they are again facing the "front" of the class & doing the 3x lunge (trench) the same as they did for the mambo-travel-mambo combo.

For my beginners, I keep the mambo-travel-mambo and substitute hamstrings around the world or L-step & travel x2 for the final 16 counts.

Enjoy!!
