Count Up, Count Down -- Cross-Phrased 64

This is a Step pattern from (pattern 12747)

Here is a tapless 64-count combo which uses moves of length 1 to 8 in order, then reverses the order. It is highly cross-phrased, being on the (4-count) beat only at the beginning and for the 8-count move and the following 7-count move. All moves complete with both feet on the floor. In the second half, the moves are done in reverse order, with the opposite lead as in the first half.

Horizontal bench.

Since the combo is symmetrical and has all moves performed with both right and left lead, it doesn't need to be repeated with opposite lead.

You can change the 8-count split lunge to a reversing split lunge (turn 180 degree on the up, up, so that the lunges are done off the front of the board), and the second half will be done on the front of the board facing the back of the room. You could also substitute different moves of each count length on the second half -- if you can come up with them.

Cueing will be difficult at the beginning and end, since the 1- and 2-count moves don't afford much time for cueing. I suggest that you cue the first 3 moves together, as if they were one 6-count move: "Hop, jack, mambo", and similarly with the last 3: "Mambo, jack, hop". It would probably be best to teach them together in the breakdown.

Breaking down the 5- and 7-count moves will also be challenging. I suggest repeating each move 4 or 8 times, then using basics, knee lifts or another simple move to fill out the phrase.

Please email me if you have any questions or comments. If you use this in a class, I would be interested in hearing how it went.
