I love using jump ropes in my classes. I teach at two different gyms, and only have ropes @ one, however, I have the class do this with no rope and I mark the floor with tape to show the distance of a rope laid out.
I then have the class lay ropes out on floor as shown:

This is really a good cardio work out, and the class will really have fun. Laying the ropes out is a fun change to 'boring jump roping'. Email me and let me know what you think. I love teaching kick boxing and enjoy getting new ideas.
