Fun and Easy! This pattern moves right along, is easy to teach for beginner instructors, and is fun for the class. You can include intervals throughout as you see fit. Some ideas for intervals are included at the end.
My Third Step Pattern: Blocks represent 32 count self-reversing combos
- 1 Broadway kick (One kick on the bench, then walk and turn for another on the floor, walk turn home. You should end up on the same corner from where you started. Can also be two alternating kicks to the corners.)
- 1 V-step
- 1 Turnstep
- Over the top
- 2 Jumping jacks
- 1 L-step
Repeat other side to get back to the front
Jumping jacks interval
- 2 Basics
- 2 Turns
- 1 Hustle
- Helicopter (Two hop turns. Can also be an over and back)
- 2 3-Knee repeaters
- 3 Alternating (corner to corner) knees
- 1 Basic
Repeat previous two combos other side
- 4 Charlestons
- Knees around the world
Repeat other side
Charleston interval (this one really gets your heart rate up!)
- L-step
- Up and 2 lunges straight back
- L-step
- Up and 2 lunges straight back
Lunge interval
- L-step
- Up and indecision (two lunges, but instead of being both straight back, you do a 1/4 turn on top of the bench to face the side, and alternate lunges side to side and then exit with another 1/4 turn so you are facing the opposite way from where you started. Up, up, lunge one side, lunge the other side and exit.)
- 2 Turnsteps
- 1 Swing kick (or hop turn, or march halfway around)
- 1 Step tap
Repeat other side
Intervals:
Jumping jacks interval:
- L-step
- 8 Jumping jacks (or power squats)
- L-step
Repeat 3 more times (4 sets of jacks)
Charleston interval: *this isn't exactly on the 4-count beat change, so use the knees at the end as a filler when you are done. Or change it! :)
- 8 Charlestons, same side
- Switch sides & 8 charlestons
- Over the top
- 8 Charlestons, same side
- Switch sides & 8 charlestons
- Over the top
- Repeat with 4, then 2 knees per corner
- Alternate knees
Lunge interval:
- 16 Singles side to side
- 8 Doubles
- 16 Singles
- 8 Doubles
- Exit
Or:
- Up straddle right lead (up, up, down, down, up, up)
- Single, single, double lunges (right toe tap, left, right, right)
Repeat as many times as you want to
