Kundalini

This is a Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 14032)

I had lots of fun showing this choreography at the DC Metro choreography exchange on 1/25/04!

32 count blocks, tapless, self-reversing. Anything with 2 stars (**) has an explanation following.

Step is horizontal:

        Front
     _________
Left | | Right
     _________
        Back

Explanations (all start on right lead for arguments' sake):

**Over 1 lunge: over the top, one lunge, go back the way you came. Facing side, (count 1) right foot up on top (2) left foot up on top (3) right foot down on front side of step (4) right foot up on top (5) left foot down on back side of step (6) right foot down on back side of step. On the second repetition, begin with the left foot (you are actually traveling to the other side on counts 5 and 6).

**Stomp each corner, up up: feet step on each corner in turn. It's like a mambo to each corner with no cha-cha, Ending up with both feet on the step. (count 1) Right foot steps on left corner (2) left foot steps in place on floor (3) right foot steps on floor (4) left foot steps on right corner (5) right foot steps in place on floor (6) Left foot steps on floor (7) right foot on top (8) left foot on top.

**3 Lunges wide, exit: lunge side to side, tapping your toes on the floor at the sides of step. (count 1) right foot lunges wide to the right side, touching the floor on the right end of the step (2) right foot up on top (3) left foot lunges wide to the left (4) left foot up (5) right foot lunges wide to the left (6) right foot up (7) left book exits to the back (8) right foot exits to the back. Replaces 3 lunges off the back.

**Single double basic: One basic step at regular tempo, two at double time. (counts 1-4) basic right (5) right foot up, left foot up (6) right foot down, left foot down (7) right foot up, left foot up (8) right foot down, left foot down. Replaces 2 basic steps.

**Freeze L-step: hop up, hop side, hop up, exit. (count 1) right foot hops up on left corner, left knee lifted (2) hold in place (3) left foot hops down on floor at left side, right knee lifted (4) hold in place (5) right foot hops up on left corner, left knee lifted (6) hold in place (7-8) exit to back left, right.

**2 Traveling knees, turn behind: turn away from the step instead of toward it as you exit. One repetition: (1) step right foot on left corner (2) lift left knee (3) turn over left shoulder toward the back as you put the left foot down (4) right foot down as you complete the turn toward the right corner. You really have to sort of hop and start the turning motion on count 2.

**Stutter basic: a basic step with a pause in the middle. (count 1) right foot up (2) hold in place (3) left foot up (and) right foot down (4) left foot down.

**V-cha-cha: V-step on the step, mambo on the floor. (counts 1-4) V-step right (5) cross right foot to the left side (6) step left foot in place on floor (7-8) step right-left-right back to the step. I make the mambo on the floor as HUGE as possible, so that the whole thing really moves.

**Kick front/back: one kick on the step, one on the floor facing back. (count 1) step right foot on left corner (2) kick left leg (3) left foot down, turning toward the step to face the back (4) right foot down, continuing the turn to the back (5) step left foot toward the back of the room, completing the turn to the back (6) kick right leg high (7) right foot down, turning back the way you came toward the step (8) left foot steps toward the step, completing the turn to the front.

**Mambo, walk around the corner: I encourage my participants to NOT walk around the corner - shuffle around, step touch around, double spin around, or hop turn can all replace the walk around. It frequently gets a chuckle when I cue, "mambo... DON'T walk around the corner!"

**Double attitude, back around the corner: a back attitude is an arabesque to the back with the knee bent. It's like a hamstring curl, but much higher, more extended, and with the hip turned out. Lift the leg to the back, open the hip to the side, point the toe, and swing the lower leg in until the knee is at a 90 degree angle. (count 1) Step right foot on left corner (2) back attitude with left leg (3) left foot down (4) back attitude with left leg (5) left foot down, stepping to the back (6) right foot down, stepping around the end of the step (7) step left foot in front of right (you are now on the front side of the step) (8) step right foot in front of left. (Note that although I explained this step as though you were doing it facing front, in the combo it follows the mambo, walk around, and therefore starts on the front of the step and brings you back home. Also, you can easily do one front attitude and one back attitude, instead of 2 to the back. It's harder to cue, though.)

**Rocking horse, flip to back: a ham curl-knee lift-ham curl rocking horse, but the knee lift faces the back of the room. (count 1) Right foot on left corner of step (2) ham curl with left leg; as the left leg comes up in the curl, hop 180 degrees to face the back of the room (3) left foot down on floor, facing back of the room (4) right knee lifts, facing the back of the room (5) right foot down on step (6) ham curl with left leg; hop 180 degrees to face the front of the room (7) left foot down on floor (8) right foot down on floor. I offer the flip to the back as an option to a regular rocking horse.

This is snitched and filched from various sources... including here. If you recognize your material, thanks for the inspiration!
