Advanced Jump Class

This is a Cycling pattern from (pattern 14636)

This routine is best used with advanced groups as there is quite a bit of jumping. Ensure that everyone's seat is properly adjusted before class. I let the class jump at an individual pace (i.e. I don't give jump counts or tell them to jump in a certain rhythm, etc.). I also tell them that jumps don't have to be consistent (such as 5 seconds up, 5 seconds down, etc.). I encourage them to try different styles -- stand for a few seconds, sit down briefly then stand again, or the reverse-- sit for a few seconds, stand briefly then sit again. I also encourage them to visualize how a jump would look on a real bike-- riding on a road, standing briefly to pass a rider, then sitting back down, or standing to get speed up, sitting back down and maintaining the speed, then standing to get back up to speed, etc. This way it gives them a visual to focus on. For those who don't like all the sit/stand moves or have knee or back problems, I give them an alternative: stay in the saddle and use the tension to simulate rolling hills. This way they still get an intense workout but don't have to go up and down.

Note: All terms are from Johnny G Spinning; I use step music (125-128 bpm) or a CD with about 25 minutes of fast-paced music and 25 minutes of slower-paced music
