Alphabet
This is an
Aquatic pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 14647)
The Alphabet is great because my college students can do it, and my seniors can do it too. We go from A-Z, and then from Z backwards through A. And they have to shout the letter out before we move on to the next letter. This serves 2 purposes, 1. it insures they're breathing, and 2. it's pretty funny to hear them trying to go backwards from Z. :) Also, we run three laps after every vowel. You add your own warm ups and cool downs!
- A-Angry kicks
- **Three laps
- B-Ballet kicks-legs crossed, jump and switch, cross, land
- C-Cowboy kicks-wide knee, bend knee, kick
- D-Double cowboy kicks
- E-Even faster double cowboy kicks
- **Three laps
- F-Frog
- G-Group run- get in a line and run all the way around the outside of the pool, to be mean, you can make them switch directions and fight the current (caution, this doesn't work so well with people who are shorter in the deep end)
- H-Hitch kick-two kicks front, two back
- I-Instep
- **Three laps
- J-Jacks
- K-Karate kicks-bend knee, kick, return
- L-Lift those heels!-Hamstring curls
- M-Moguls-down hill ski
- N-Noodle--side to side shoot outs
- O-One legged jack
- **Three laps
- P-Pendulum
- Q-Quiet water jacks-levels two and three
- R-Russian kicks
- S-Straddle jump a.k.a cheerleader
- T-Tucks
- U-Unbelievably fast tucks
- **Three laps
- V- V kicks
- W-Walk like an Egyptian-grapevine left and right, and once they are comfortable, add "egyptian" arms. It's all with humor, and it gets them laughing
- X-X country ski
- Y-Yo yo jumps
- Z-Zoo animals-this is sculpting, pick an animal, write it with your arms together under the water, then in cursive, then what they would name it, silly stuff like that
Now backwards! Don't forget to have them shout the letter that comes next!
You can always use your own moves if you don't like some of mine, hopefully this got you thinking!
