Sonia's ABC's of Step (Routine II)
This is a
Double Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 14836)
Basic/intermediate vertical, double step. Combos are 32 count, tapless, and self-reversing. Begin with a right lead on the left side of the home (H) step. Away step = (A). Right/left designates which foot is leading. Detailed footwork follows.

Combo 1
- Right (H), T-step exit end (8)
- Right (H), Slide 'n' jack to end of (A) (4)
- Left (A), 2 Mambos, may add cha cha chas and turns (8)
- Left (A), Walk up the step left/right/left/right (4)
- Left (A), Straddle the step and march back - get the knees up! (4)
- Left (A), Knee on, knee off right side (4)
Repeat left beginning on the away step.
Combo 2
- Right (H), 2 Traveling hams (8)
- Right (H), Double stomp and over the top..walk in the ditch (NO TAP) (8)
- Right (A), Step up right/left, lunge right/left, exit right/left to face the step (8)
- Right (A), L-step at back end of away step (8)
Repeat left beginning on the away step.
Combo 3
- Right (H), Double knee walk back around the end to the ditch (8)
- Left (H), Glute squeeze (4)
- Right (A), Glute squeeze (4)
- Left (H), Glute squeeze (4)
- Right (A), 1/4 Revolving door (over the top turning to face the step, no tapping) (4)
- Right (A), Combo repeater (knee, abductor, hamcurl) (8)
Repeat left beginning on the away step.
All footwork begins with a right lead on the left side of the home step.
Footwork Combo 1:
- (1,2) Step up right and left, (3,4) straddle down right and left, (5,6) step up right and left, (7,8) exit the back of the step right and left.
- (9-12) Step wide to the right, slide the left foot in and do one jumping jack. NOTE - you may do 1 grapevine instead. You are now at the back end of the Away step.
- (13-20) 2 Left lead mambos. Do one mambo and cha cha cha turning away from the step, do the second mambo facing the back on the floor and cha cha cha turning back to the step.
- (21-24) Walk forward on the step left, right, left, right
- (25-28) Straddle down marching back left, right, left, right - you can really get those knees up doing this as football runs
- (29,30) Step up left, lift the right knee
- (31,32) Right foot to floor off the right side of Away, lift the left knee
Footwork Combo 2:
- (1-8) Step up right towards the front of the step and hamcurl left, walk down moving toward the back, step up left and hamcurl, walk down to face the front
- (9-16) Stomp the right foot on the step, left lifts slightly, left foot to floor, right lifts slightly, repeat the stomp - step up right and left, exit in the ditch right and left - no tapping
- (17-24) On Away, step up right and left. Lunge to the side right and left. Exit right and left off the right side of Away turning to face the step.
- (25-32) L-step any style at the back end of Away.
Footwork Combo 3:
- (1-8) Step up right and double knee lift, walk backward right/left/right/left moving around the back end of home and forward into the ditch
- (9-20) The three glute squeezes are called ping pong glutes. Start on the Home step with a left lead; then right lead on Away and left lead on home.
- (21-24) On Away, step up right and left turning back around the left shoulder, exit right and left facing the Away step.
- (25-32) Right foot on top, knee left, left taps down, left abductor, left taps down, left hamcurl, exit left and right to face front.
