Sonia's Five Double Vertical Intermediate/Advanced Combos

This is a Double Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 15149)

Place two steps vertically with enough space in between to do a turnstep comfortably (left step is Home {H}, Right step is Away{A}). If you have a limited number of steps they can be placed in a row with one extra step off the right end. Students share the steps. One persons Home step becomes their left neighbors Away step!

All combinations begin on a right lead on the left side of Home. The "Ditch" is the space between the steps. Combos are 32 counts, self-reversing, and tapless.

Combo 1

Repeat left beginning on Away.

*Variations: the grapevine can be changed to a shuffle 1&2 and march left/right on 3/4; or on counts 3/4 spin back around the right shoulder stepping forward and slightly across left and right and into the left mambo. The grapevine can also be a slide and jack: (1,2) step wide to the right, slide the left foot in, (3,4) one jack.

Combo 2

Repeat left beginning on Away.

Variation: the Hanging V can be done as a Split V - (1,2) step forward right on A, step forward left on H, (3,4) step back into the ditch right/left.

Combo 3

Repeat left beginning on Away.

**Shuffle stroll:
1&2) shuffle (aka, cha cha cha, triple step) forward along the edge of the step, right foot on step, left foot on floor
3,4) walk forward on the floor left and right
5,6) step forward left and pivot to your right (toward the step)
7,8) walk to the step left and right
Repeat with the left lead to turn you to face the front.

Combo 4

Repeat left beginning on Away.

Combo 5

Repeat left beginning on Away.

Footwork *** - ********:

*** Ping pong: this term means traveling between the two steps - bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball.

**** Turnstep loop: (1,2) begin a right lead turnstep on the Away step, (3,4) walk down in the ditch with a turn forward to face the Home step, (5,6) right lead turnstep on Home, (7,8) walk down in the ditch with a turn forwrad to face front. 2 Turnsteps on Away works just the same and is less dizzying!

***** Hanging V-swoop:
1,2) step right forward onto step, step left wide onto the floor
3,4) right foot steps back and slightly behind left foot, left takes a small step to the side
5,6) 1/2 mambo - rock forward right on floor as left lifts, left returns to floor as right lifts - swoop the right arm down and across your body
7,8) cha cha cha right/left/right to face the home step

****** Rock 'n' Fly:
1-4) Rocking horse left lead on left side of home step
5-8) Hop turn forward, exiting in the ditch right/left

******* Flamingo lunge/straddle: (1) step up right on Away, (2) lift the left knee, (3,4) turn the left knee out and in, (5) lunge back right or just tap down, (6) left knee up, (7,8) straddle down left/right. OR (1,2) Step up right on A, lift the left knee, (3-6) turn the left knee out in out in, (7,8) straddle down left/right.
