Sue's Step #5

This is a Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 15173)

Hi folks - This is two 64 count combos, all tapless. The first changes lead, and the second doesn't, so if you put them both together, the whole thing changes lead. You can get creative to switch leads while you're teaching the second one if you feel you must-

I like teaching with layers, so the * moves have optional layers listed at the end. A lot of my layers have turns and hops in them, so it's important to remind folks to unweight.

Breakdowns of "named" moves are at the end too.

Comments/feedback and questions all welcome!

- Sue

First Block - 64 counts (changes lead)

Second Block - 64 counts (does not change lead)

NAMED STEPS:

"Double lunge" right (8 counts, does not change lead, I think this is what some folks call a split basic???): up-up right, left, lunge back right, lunge back left, down-down right, left

"Walk across bench and turn in" right (4 counts, does not change lead, moves from end of bench back to "home" behind bench): starting on left/west end of bench facing right/east wall, counts 1,2 right, left foot up on bench as if you were starting a short diagonal across the back left (southwest) corner of the step, counts 3,4 right, left down-down on ground behind bench turning your body slightly counterclockwise to face the front of the room in "home" position

"Repeater over with a twist" right (8 counts, changes lead): count 1 right up on bench (turn slightly to face left/west wall), count 2 left foot up on bench next to right (still facing left/west wall), count 3 right foot down on ground in front/north of bench (have weight evenly distributed on feet), counts 4-5 hips twist towards back/south of room and then front/north, count 6 right foot back up on bench, counts 7-8 down down left right (back home)

"Knee left + turnback knee" (8 counts, does not change lead): knee left on bench (4 counts) + knee right on ground facing back right corner of room, as if there were a bench there (note: counts 7,8 return back to "home" behind bench)

"Overturn" left (4 counts, does not change lead): half of a revolving door left

"Skate and slide" left (8 counts, does not change lead): starting behind bench in "home" position, counts 1,2 left foot on bench, right leg curls; counts 3,4 right foot on bench, left leg curls; counts 5,6 walk-walk left, right sideways to left on bench (can sort of "hop slide" this), still facing forward, counts 7,8 walk-walk left, right on ground off back left (southwest) corner coming back to "home"

"Rock up and back" right (8 counts, does not change lead): starting behind bench, facing diagonally to left/west wall, counts 1,2 right foot on bench, left knee up; counts 3,4 left foot on ground in place, right knee up; counts 5,6 right foot on ground back on same diagonal, left knee up; counts 7, 8 left foot on ground in place, right knee up

"Crossover" right (4 counts, some folks call this a weave - like an over-the-top, but without the tap, faces left wall the whole time, changes lead): right foot on bench, left leg swings up behind & over, left foot down on other side of bench, right foot down outside left foot

"Ruepeater flip" right (8 counts, changes lead) count 1 right foot up on bench, count 2 left knee up and start turning ("flip") counterclockwise, count 3 left foot taps on front/north side of bench, counts 4-5 left foot taps twice more while keep turning counterclockwise around end of bench, count 6 left knee up, counts 7-8 down down left right (back home) - remind folks to unweight the foot that is on the bench!!!

ALTERNATE LAYERS:

* 2 x Straddle left - can be 2 x reverse turn straddle left (no hop, and definitely don't do one of each!!!)

** Mambo left to bench (start and end in home position behind bench) - can be pivot off bench and then pivot on ground back to bench

*** 2 Knee repeater left - can be done with "double tap": count 1 left foot taps to bench and right foot on ground - weight sort of distributed between them, count 2 hop/switch so right foot taps to bench with left foot on ground - weight sort of distributed among them, count 3 hop/switch so left foot taps to bench with right foot on ground - most of weight on left foot ready for next count, count 4 left foot on bench and right knee up, counts 5,6 - down, down right, left

**** 2 x Knee right, left - can be three slow tempo hops on bench: counts 1,2 - hop up with both feet at left/west end of bench facing forward; counts 3,4 - hop sideways with both feet on bench to right/east end of bench still facing forward; counts 5,6 - hop sideways on bench with both feet to left/west end of bench facing forward; counts 7,8 - down, down right, left in home position; can throw arms up with the first hop, down with the next hop, back up with the third hop (or whatever arms you want)
