Kickboxing with Heavy Bags
This is a
BoxAerobics pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 15199)
I thought I'd share some bagwork since we don't see alot of posts for it. It's a lot of fun and breaks a sweat!
I teach these combos with a boxer's stance (right foot in front) and then switch to a Southpaw stance (left foot in front). I also break them down slow and then we speed up to tempo.
Arm Work:
- Jab-cross-hook-duck (use the legs to squat down)
- Jab-cross-hook-shovel
- Double jab-low cross (lunge down as you cross)
- Jab 2x (same arm)-uppercuts 2x (right and left)
Leg Work:
I usually do basic kicks on the bag to warm up the legs and then move on to combos.
- Front kicks
- Roundhouses
- Right knee-left front kick
- (switch to roundhouse and then to sidekick. You will need to pivot the body so the left leg is toward the bag on the sidekicks).
- Switch to left knee-right front kick
Combos (all 8 counts):
(remember to stand in Boxer's Stance)
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - squat - left round - right round
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - jab (right) - cross (left) - low kick - high kick
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - slip - front kick (slow count)
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - jab (right) - cross (left) - slip - front kick (speed to tempo)
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - jab (right) - cross (left) - 2 knees (using the back knee)
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - jab (right) - cross (left) - knee (left) - front kick (right)
- Jab (right) - cross (left) - hook (right) - knee (left) - sidekick (right) *pivot the body sideways as you lift the knee so you can go into the sidekick
Then repeat in Southpaw stance (left foot in front)
I hope you enjoy the choreography. If you have any questions please email me. I'd really like it if other instructors would post combinations and share.
