In The Cards

I have three cards, each one represents a different move, i.e. Ace = sprint, 2= run on a hill, 3= fast flat. I start out with a 6 minute warm-up and then about (7) songs, each averaging about 6 minutes. This gives the riders time to really focus on the move and their stroke. About 1 minute prior to the end of a song, I will ask a cycling related question (i.e. heart rates, energy zones, form, etc.). Whoever answers it correctly chooses the card for the next song (they are face down of course!). If, for example, the sprint card is chosen two times in a row, I will take that out for 1 round. Then it will go back in, each move only being used a possible 3 times. The music is up-beat, so it is suitable for each move.

This is a great way to get your students to focus on the basics of their moves and zero in on their strokes. The questions also bring up a lot of good information and some great cycling-related discussions!
