Sue's Step #9

This is a Step pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 15440)

Hi folks -

Here are four 48 count blocks, all tapless, except for the 2 step-touches sort of "hidden" in the whirlwind move [smile].

I teach each block with some "filler" for the last 16 counts, to make them 64 counts. Then when I put all four together at the end, I leave out the filler and get a monster 192 count combo. It's sort of like three 64 count combos put together, except unfortunately they don't break up nicely to teach that way, so I do them this way instead. Three of them change lead, and one doesn't, so when you put all four together, the whole thing changes lead.

If you have questions or comments, please email me, and please put "turnstep" somewhere in the subject line!

Thanks!

- Sue

First block (48 counts - changes lead)

Second block (48 counts - does not change lead)

Third block (48 counts - changes lead)

Fourth block (48 counts - changes lead)

Named steps:

"Overturn" left (4 counts, does not change lead): half of a revolving door left

"Double lunge" left (8 counts, does not change lead, I think this is what some folks call a split basic???): up-up left, right, lunge back left, lunge back right, down-down left, right

"Walk across bench and turn in" left (4 counts, does not change lead, moves from end of bench back to "home" behind bench): starting on right/east end of bench facing left/west wall, counts 1,2 left, right foot up on bench as if you were starting a short diagonal across the back right (southeast) corner of the step, counts 3,4 left, right down-down on ground behind bench turning your body slightly clockwise to face the front of the room in "home" position

"Tippy-tap" repeater left (8 counts, horizontal bench, entire move faces right/east wall until you exit to "home" on counts 7-8, changes lead): left foot on bench (count 1), right foot taps on ground in front of your body beyond end of bench towards right/east wall (count 2), right foot taps on ground behind your body near the middle of the bench but still facing right/east wall (count 3), right knee up (count 4), right foot taps on ground behind your body near the middle of the bench but still facing right/east wall (count 5), right foot taps on ground in front of your body beyond end of bench towards right/east wall (count 6), right foot steps on ground in "home" position (count 7), left foot steps on ground in "home" position (count 8) NOTE: the taps are almost more like single count pushes...

"Knee up left + turnback knee" (8 counts, does not change lead): knee on bench left (4 counts) + turn 180 degrees back into knee right on ground facing back corner of room, as if there were a bench there (note: counts 7,8 return back to "home" behind bench)

"Flip backwards left and push" (6 count move, changes lead): left foot on bench count 1, right knee up on count. 2 with a little hop of the left foot on the bench to "flip" backwards/clockwise over the bench, right foot on ground on other side of bench count 3 (keep turning clockwise), left foot pushes to ground on count. 4 (your back is to the bench now) and change your direction of rotation coming out of the "push," right, left walk-walk turning counterclockwise back to face bench on counts 5, 6

"Push all the way around the world" left (12 count move, does not change lead, starts from behind bench facing right/east wall): left foot "pushes" on bench towards right/east end of bench (facing right/east wall), step right, left in straddle (still facing right/east wall), right foot "pushes" on bench, exit left, right on north side of bench (facing back of room), left foot "pushes" on bench towards west end of bench (facing left/west wall), step right, left in straddle (still facing left/west wall), right foot "pushes" on bench, exit left, right on south side of bench (facing front of room) NOTE: In this combo, the move actually starts and ends on the north side of the bench, not the south, so you need to adjust accordingly.

"L-U-L" left (also can call it L-U-turn-L, 8 counts, does not change lead): knee left off right end of bench and turn counterclockwise as you exit to face the back of the room, knee right off the end of the bench and exit normally to face back of room

"Whirlwind" left (8 count move, does not change leads, starting from behind bench): overturn left (counts 1-4), 2 step-touches left-right turning around the left/west end of the bench to return home (counts 5-8) NOTE: In this combo, the move actually starts and ends on the north side of the bench, not behind/south of the bench, so you need to adjust accordingly.

"Hopscotch crossover" right (8 counts, from behind bench facing left/west wall the whole time, ends north/front of bench, changes lead): right foot on bench, left foot on ground, right foot on ground on other side of bench, left foot on ground in about the same place as it was, crossover/weave right

"Indecision lunge" right (8 count move, does not change lead, starting from behind bench, facing left/west wall) up-up right, left facing west wall, 2 x lunge to side right, left, down-down right, left exiting to the north and turning to face the back of the room

Alternate layers:

* A simpler version of the "tippy-tap" repeater can be a regular three knee repeater, or any other lead-changing 8 count. repeater

** The two knees can turn clockwise 360 degrees as you move across the bench. Although this sounds more complicated with the turn, I actually find this easier with the turn than the "simpler" version without.

*** The two knee repeater can "pop over" to tap in front of the bench on count. 3 and then come back to exit normally behind the bench on counts 5,6

**** The two "2 count. repeaters + jack on ground" can both add a 180 flip over the bench with the second knee (count 4), so that the jack of the first one is on the ground in front/north of the bench facing the back of the room, and the jack of the second one is on the ground back "home" behind the bench. You can't do one of each - you have to do either two with the "flip" or two without it.

*****Hopscotch crossover right can be "double time" (8 counts, from behind bench, facing left/west wall the whole time, first four counts are double time, changes lead): right foot on bench on count 1, left foot on ground on "and", right foot on ground on other side of bench on count. 2, left foot on ground in about the same place as it was on "and", right foot on bench on count. 3, left foot on ground in about the same place as it was on "and", right foot on ground on other side of bench on count. 4, left foot on ground in about the same place as it was on "and", crossover/weave right at normal tempo
