I play a lot of games in my classes to keep it fun and creative. I find that adults love to play games! It also makes the hour fly by. I'd love to hear about games other people use in thier classes. Here are a few of my favorite games:
- Spin the bottle (makes a great warm-up or use in the body of the workout)
Have students stand in one large circle or several small circles of 5-10 participants. Place a water bottle in the middle of the circle. Have a volunteer go fisrt by starting an aerobic move such as jumping jacks, V-steps, hamstring curls etc; all participants follow along. After 30 seconds or more the leader moves to the center and spins the bottle. Whoever the bottle points to must come up with a new move to do. We play for 5 minutes or until everyone has had at least 1 turn.
- Aerobics around the world (works best in a large room or outdoors)
Assign each 4 sides of the room a country. Instructor calls out a country and all participants run to that side of the room and performa disignated activity that matches the country. Let them continue for 30 seconds or so and call a different country. I like to let my participants come up with the ideas. Here are a few we've used:- Australia-hop like a kangaroo
- Spain-dribble a pretend soccer ball
- Italy-grapevines (wine country)
- Egypt-walk like an Egyption
- Switzerland-pretned you are skiing moguls
- Super circulation:
Divide participants in half to make two teams. Each participant is given a number. There should be a person from each team with the same number. Have participants stand in one big circle. Place a small item such as a bean bag or tennis ball in the middle of the circle. Participants then jog, walk, skip, shuffle around in a cirle. Instructor calls out a number like "7" . The participants with the number 7 then run to the center to grab the object. Whoever gets the object first wins a point for thier teams. Players return to the circle and the games continues. Change direction of the circle and locomotor activity to keep it interesting. Play for 5-8 minutes or until exhausted!
Have fun! Email me fun game ideas.
