Vertical - Basic to Intermediate
This is a
Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 15824)
I like to teach my routines "Glick" style. The first part is 16 counts, the second part is 8 counts and the third part is 8 counts. I teach the three parts separately. (they will be self-reversing). After teaching and showing the variations on the three different parts, I run them doing the right & left lead and then I weave the the three different parts into a self-reversing 32 count pattern.
I start with the pattern on the short end (back) of the step and then morph it or move it around the step.

Base Pattern: (starts and ends at back of bench)
Part 1 = 16 counts
- Step up right/left (2)
- Double knee exit right/left (6)
- Step knee exit left/right (4)
- Left basic hitch (4)
Part 2 = 8 counts
Part 3 = 8 counts
**Part 1: the change just moves around the bench
- Step up right/left (But this time step up to the center of the bench)
- Lunge off right side of bench/Cross behind lunge on left side of bench, exit right/left (off right side of bench) to face the back of the room.
- Step knee exit (left/right) off short end of step (front side of bench)
- Hitch the longway across, exit left/right (off back of bench) to face the front of the room
**Part 2: repeater variation
- Step knee lunge (3) hop out wide on the floor behind the bench (1) right foot hops back onto the step at the same time the left foot hops behind the bench on the floor in line with the right foot (1) Left knee lift (1) exit left/right (2)
**Part 3: L-step variation
- Step knee land it on top of the bench (3)
- Right foot crosses behind left to the floor - (left foot remains on bench) (1)
- Switch (1) (right foot hops up to bench while left foot hops to the floor)
- Left knee lift (1)
- Exit left/right off back of bench (2)
When doing this L-step variation, make sure you are slightly rotating or pivoting your feet to accomodate any "cross behind" move or the exit off the back side of the bench from a side move.
The teaching sequence is:
- Part 1 right and left (2x)
- Part 2 right and left (2x)
- Part 3 right and left (2x)
...then weave them together:
- Part 1 (right lead)
- Part 2 (left lead)
- Part 3 (right lead) ...then start all over leading left on Part 1
If you have questions - ask me on the MOVES board.
