Warm up for sculpting class

This is a Warmup pattern from www.turnstep.com. (pattern 16000)

I love this warm up for a couple of reasons. First, there is virtually no choreography, so non-steppers and those with 2 left feet can easily do this warm up and actually get WARMED UP! Second, because the warm up uses the same moves as the class, you can get a lot of posteral cueing in early about how to properly do a move (squat, lunge, kickback, etc.) so that there's less down time during the class. The moves all start with getting the lower body moving, and then adding in an upper body movement.

I have my class pick up "very light" weights, such as 2 or 3 lbs. I tell them we are warming up, not builing muscle, so to stay very light. It could easily be done with NO weight. I use step beat music (126-128).

Repeat the whole thing and it takes about 6-7 minutes, a perfect warm-up!

Don't forget to give all kinds of cues, it's the perfect time to get the participants' heads in the game. Remind them not to swing, but rather to place the weights. Remind them to keep their body weight centred on their stationary leg, pushing through the heel.

Enjoy!
