Advanced Tapless Step II
This is a
Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 16256)
I haven't found an ideal way to break down this combo. My class knows my style so they are able to catch on easily. If you find a good way to break it down, please feel free to share! My apologies - but I thought I'd contribute in case it gives anyone any ideas.
How I cue it:
- Reverse lunge/power knee over
- Pivot, chasse
- Turn in, take it up
- Exit cross back
- Stomp the step
- Up 1 lunge
- Basic or full reverse
Explanation and suggestion on how to build:
Warming up & confirming moves:
- Up lunge 2, exit front (8)
- Up lunge 2, exit back (8)
- Power knee over the step (4)
- Pivot chasee, facing the back of the room (4)
- Power knee over (4)
- Pivot chasse, facing the front of the room (4)
Power knee over: Begin traveling knees. Add a little power (hop) to the knee lift. Now "power knee over," letting the hop take you over the step so you land in front of the step so your pivot will turn you so you face the step, facing the back of the room.
Building the combo:
- Up lunge right foot (4) / second lunge is replaced with the power knee over - left foot taps down (5,6), power left knee over (7), left foot lands in front of step (8)
- Pivot right over left shoulder to face the back of the room and your step is in front of you (1), chasse left/right/left (2&3) moving left towards the end of the step
- Turn in to the small end of the step - you have 3 steps to do this - right (4), left (5), right (6)
- "Take it up" - you end on top of the bench, stepping up left (7), right (8)
Get back on beat by doing a 2-knee repeater, knee straddle, knee straddle, knee exit puts you back behind the bench.
Once the class gets the above, change:
- REVERSE lunge (right foot lunges BEHIND the step) / power knee over - so you now land BEHIND the step. All else is the same, just changing direction
- Pivot (now facing the FRONT of the room), chasse to small end of bench
- Turn in to the small end of the bench 4, 5, 6 and take it up left (7), right (8)
Adding on:
- Reverse lunge/power knee over (1-8)
- Pivot chasse (1, 2 & 3)
- Turn in (4, 5, 6)
- Take it up - walking across the step left (7), right (8)
- Exit cross back - face the front of the room as you exit off the other small end of the step- right foot steps on the floor (1), left foot crosses behind the right foot and rocks back (2), shift the weight back onto your right foot (3)
- Stomp the step - left foot stomps the corner of the step (4). As you stomp, push yourself back behind the step exiting right (5) left (6)
- 2-Knee repeat (7 - 4), 1 single knee (5 - 8)
Final change and add-on:
- Reverse lunge/power knee over (1-8)
- Pivot chasse (1, 2 & 3)
- Turn in (4, 5, 6)
- Take it up - walking across (7, 8)
- Exit (1), cross back - rocking the cross back behind (2, 3)
- Stomp the step left (4), exit behind step right (5) left (6)
- 1 Lunge (replaces the 2-knee repeater) (7 - 4)
- Basic or full reverse (5 - 8)
Ready to tackle the left-foot lead.
