My first combo is always more of a warm up on the step to get them ready for the more difficult turning moves. It also gives me a chance to access the ability of the class. This is an entire combo, but it self-reverses lots of places for practice.
- Right basic 2 times (8)
- Elvis repeater (8) (or any kind of repeater you want)
- Corner curls (lead left, right, left right) (16)
- Left lead chug around the world and end with a basic left to complete 16 counts
- L-off 2x any style you want (16)
- L-off box step and cha cha cha (or shuffle) back to starting point (8)
- Corner knees to get ready for the repeater off the front (8)
This next one is a long one. It is lots of fun and a class favorite. I will try to explain it as we go.
- Right lead - 3 knee repeater walk off the front corner (8)
- Shuffle around the step (left, right, left and go up up onto the step (8)
- The first 6 counts are just a like regular knee repeater, right lead, facing the west corner. On 7 and 8 instead of exiting off the back, exit to the front of the west corner - as you step down with your left foot, start to turn left towards the back corner of the room, as you step down with your right foot you should continue the turn until you are facing the step and the back of the room. **A cue I use is that whatever knee is the repeater knee, that is the direction of the turn. Then shuffle left, right, left turning around the east end of the step. On 7 and 8 step up onto your step, right, left. You will be facing west-the same direction you started in. (8)
- Lunge single, single, double (right, left, right, right) (8)
- Lunge single/single/doble, (left, right, left, left) (8)
- Squat and fly over 4x (16) (right,left,right,left)
- Step off the front with the right foot and mambo back with the left and then come back up up on the step. (5)
- Step off the back with the left foot and mambo back with the right (3)
- Jump and shoot a repeater to the west corner (8)
At this point the move reverses.
- Left lead-kick up, heel off (8)
- Hop turn over left (4)
- Straight over left (4)
- 2 Turnsteps (right/left) (8)
- Right lead - turnstep walk back kick (8)
- Left Lead - diagonal walk over, turn and return to step (8)
- Still left lead -shuffle walk and turn shuffle down the step (1 and 2) keep walking away from the step right on 3, left on 4, right foot forward on on 5, pivot (to the left) on 6 and walk back to step on 7 and 8 (right/left)
- Right lead - diagonal walk over turn and return to step (8)
- Right lead - shuffle walk and turn (just like above only right lead)
This self reverses to the 2 turnsteps if you want to practice.
- Double chug left and straddle the step, double chug right and exit off the front (left, right) facing the step (10)
- Left lead hop turn over the step (4)
- 1 Jack facing front (2)
- Up up (left right), chug left off left and and right off right end. (8)
- Chug off the back left, right and exit left, right.
Start all from left basic.
