A list of ideas for your next water aerobics class
This is an
Aquatic pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 16702)
I've not used all of these moves yet. I managed to find "Create Your Own Water Workout" by Terrell Dougan at my parent's local library. Anyway, the video was made in 1993, but she had some excellent moves that I hadn't used before. I've tried to explain the moves as best I can. Unfortunately, I do not have the video to view anymore, so what you see is what you get (as far as an explanation goes). I hope some of it makes some sense to you!
- Hitler Goose Steps - walking forward, straight legs, kick forward but not too high.
- Snake Arms - one arm pushes out with palm facing up, torso moving in same direction as arm. Opposite arm pushes opposite way, palm facing down.
- Hula Hoop - circular hips as if using a hula hoop
- Strippers Bump - pelvic tilts anteriorly and posteriorly
- Esther Williams - back stroke while water walking backwards
- Vertical Helicopters - bouncing up vertically until high enough to flutter kick, try to count how many flutter kicks you can do before you come back down.
- Circular Helicopters - use hips to rotate your entire body in a circular motion, good to use with noodles in the deep end.
- Push me, Pull you- use straight arms to push back as you leap back, and pull you forward as you leap forward. Similar to the rocking horse.
- Washing Machine - knees come up and elbows come to knees, no twisting torso.
- The Baryshnikov- leaping sideways/forwards
- Pinocchio Legs- jogging while straight legs kick high
- Lucky Leprechaun - jump and click your heels to the side or beneath you
- Round the Clock - arms out to sides; palms down; large circular motions followed by smaller circular motions; palms up; reverse circles
- The Bouncer - feet together; arms extended and palms down; bounce up on the left foot pushing down with both hands causing body to rise up; then repeat on opposite leg
- Standing Crawl - simulate overhand crawl while walking forward; reach out with left hand, gripping hand through the water pressing down and pulling through to the thigh; alternate arms
- Figure 8s with arms - arms extended to the sides of your body drawing figure 8s on the sides
- Engine Arms - fists closed, elbows bent in front of you, quickly pump fists up and down, right up while left is down, vice versa.
