Synchro Circle
This is an
Aquatic pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 16293)
The Synchro Circle is good to be performed in the middle of a class. There are two variations in the circle.
The placement of the Synchro Circle depends on the group. It is a good cardio workout with lots of fun!
After the warmups and maybe some dumbell excercises, begin them with a Figure Eight forward and backwards to get them together in a group. I would rotate 4 directions each way with the Figure Eight. It's a nice lead in to the Synchro Circle.
- (Have people not as comfortable in water- in shallower end and others in the deeper area.)
- WATCH THE WALL. The circle tends to move so make sure they stay clear of the wall, steps, or lane lines!
- Divide group into two or more circles of 6-8 people. *Note: If it is a small class circle can be divided into 3's.
- Have the group interlace hands or arms in circle.
- Guide everyone to stand on one leg (preferrably the right leg and have all of their left feet raised and toward middle - feet do not have to touch) So everyone's left leg is elevated toward the middle.
- Have both or more circles begin to hop to the right on one foot (right foot) (in a circle) Have them get some nice speed going (4)
- Then keeping the same foot or changing the standing foot depending on time, (have them hop to the left) Going against their own resistance (and have them pick up speed) (4)
- Then repeat on other leg in both directions (4) each way if the standing leg was not changed after first circle to the right.
- Depending on size of the group and time, have everyone stand on their right foot again with left foot extended (moving to the right) and have one person at a time lift both feet forward toward middle off the ground as the group moves in the circular direction. **This is a fun and a nice bonding excercise. ***Make sure only one person has both feet up at a time. (2) After (2) have them change legs and people going with both feet up (the person with both feet up gets a free ride) - Make sure everyone has a turn - watch the time.
- Please note: if some people aren't as comfortable in the water then allow circle to stand on both feet while supporting the person taking a ride!
- Have circle go at a nice pace so people float nicely.
- ADVANCED Synchro Circle: In deeper end.
- Have people float on their backs in circle with feet together in middle. Have them use their arms to go to the right or in one direction (2)-(4) Change direction.
- For those whom want more of a challenge - have them all point their right foot up toward the ceiling as they go in circle-left foot pointing towards the middle.(2)- (4)
- Most important-have fun!!! This is a great group bonding method and a good workout with fun. It seems to help pull the men into the group more too.!
- It's also very good for those not as comfortable in the water gaining support from their peers!
- Noodles is a good follow up after a nice jog to keep them moving.
HAVE FUN!
