1-3-6 Rhythm Stomp from Jacque
This is a
Step pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 16454)
I've blended some of my own stuff with a couple things from Rob Glick's "Step Gone Wild". Have had this DVD several months and am still digesting it -- tons of material!
The "1-3-6" part of this pattern comes from one of the bonus tracks (I can't remember the guy's name) and I've morphed it a little bit. The reverse up tango part of the pattern is straight from Rob. Thanks guys, in case you ever read this board! Wink! ;-)
Horizontal board, tapfree, reversing. Fairly advanced complexity level. Feel free to email me with questions.

- Right lead: Rhythm stomp 1-3-6 (8)*
- Left lead: V-cross chasse off E end (6)**
- Right lead: V-cross chasse off W end (6)
- Left lead: Reverse up (2)
- Left lead: Exit and tango (3)***
- Right lead: Reverse up (2)
- Right lead: Exit and stomp right at SW corner (5)
*Rhythm Stomp 1-3-6 =
Count 1: stomp right at SW corner
Counts 2-and: march right-left quick (a little power helps)
Count 3: stomp left at SE corner
Counts 4,5: march right/left
Count 6: stomp right at SW corner (option: stomp the floor OR pivot)
Counts 7,8: march left/right
** V-cross chasse off the end = hangover-V off the end (1,2) + mambo crossing foot over (3,4) + chasse to the other end (5-and-6). Foot can cross in front or back.. Whatever feels best.
***Tango = step behind as in a rock-back or back-mambo. 3 count move: exit (1), tango back (2), march.(3).
Breakdown:
- 1. Begin by teaching the 1-3-6 rhythm stomp. Base = 1 knee + 1 basic + 2 alternating kicks (16).
- 2. Change to: 1 knee + back-mambo as you exit (1-5) + stomp same corner on count 6 (6-8) + 2 alternating kicks. Tell them that the stomp on "6" is your "anchor" move.
- 3. Change the knee to: stomp SW corner with right foot on 1 + left foot down on 2 + right foot down on "and" + stomp SE corner with left foot on 3 + march right, left on 4-5 + stomp SW corner on 6 + march left, right on 7,8 + 2 alternating kicks (16). I cue it "1-3-6" because you stomp on those counts. You are back with the class on counts 4-8.
- 4. Demo option to do count 6 on the floor - which sets you up for an optional pivot.
- 5. Put the "1-3-6" aside for the time being and introduce the V-cross-chasses. Base = 2 alternating 2-knee repeaters + 1 basic (16) + something for a lead leg change (16) (I used 1 3-knee repeater + 2 alternating kicks.)
- 6. Replace the 2-knee repeaters: demo the V-cross-chasses off each end. OR if your class needs this broken down you can do this instead: floor mambo-cha-cha 2x"s + 2 basics changes to: stomp-mambo-cha-cha 2x"s (stomp board then floor, then cha-cha) + 1 basic. Then demo the direction off the ends.
- 7. Demo an optional reverse-basic for the basic.
- 8. Put together with the "1-3-6" rhythm stomp: "1-3-6" rhythm stomp (8) + V-cross-chasse off each end (12) + 1 basic or reverse basic (4) + 2 alternating kicks (8) = (32). When time is short, you could use this combo without layering in the next part.
- 9. Put aside the combo so far, block and teach the next part. Base = 1 kick (4) + 3 basics (12) = (16).
- 10. Change to: 1 kick (4) + up, up (2) + exit dn & rock back on floor as the other foot exits (tango) (3) + 1 basic (4) + stomp corner (3) = (16). I cue it after the kick as, "basic and tango, basic and stomp".
- 11. Demo reversing up for both basics. it's optional.
- 12. Blend this with the previous combo. The kicks disappear from both parts. After the second V-cross-chasse, reverse up as before but now you exit with a tango, reverse up again the other direction, exit and stomp.
