Chasse Strut
This is a
Hi/Lo pattern from
www.turnstep.com.
(pattern 16643)
More sharesies - my whole class love this; I have 20something gym bunnies alongside some larger and some older ladies (and a few buff chaps too) and the alternatives means they all get to enjoy it equally
Final Routine: right lead block 1, left lead block 2, right lead block 3, then repeat it left, right, left:
- Step touch backwards right lead, like a sideways 'V' shape (1-4) - you could scoop, sweep, leap or pony!
- Walk (ie strut with purpose/attitude) forward 4 steps, also right lead (5-8) - you can skip this like you're in some 70s musical if you like.
- Grapevine (or chasse - or spin with a clap) to the right - going into it from the strut can feel like more of an 'arc' when done at speed. (9-12)
- Grapevine (/chasse/spin) back. (13-16)
- 'Tap step': tap out right leg (17), bring it back (18), regular step touch to the right. (19-20)
- Repeat tap step on other leg, left lead, taking you back 'home'. (21-24)
- A very normal leg curl, single-single-double, though possible to turn first 2 curls in a 360. (25-32)
- 'Tap Round' going forwards, tapping to 4 points: front, side, behind, side, ending up facing forwards (so Right leg acts as the 'pivot' as you tap round with the left - this can be jumped for increased intensity). (1-8)
- Grapevine (chasse) to the left, ending it with a leg curl rather than a tap, to take you into a... (9-12)
- ...Box step, RIGHT leg lead (jump it back for intensity, or do a Pivot instead for danciness). (13-16)
- 'Showgirl' x 4: step right kick left, step left kick right, step right kick left, step left kick right - the higher intensity alternative for this is a fast kick, alternate legs for 8. Or just kick higher. (17-24)
- Shuffle x 4 (some people call it 'spotty dog' - could back tap for lower impact, but it doesn't flow as well) - don't forget strong arms. (25-28)
- Step touch x 2 - this should be to the right and back after the shuffle, it does flow, honest! (29-32)
(Note - the final block is made 'simple' after 2 heavily choreographed blocks)
- Chasse, step behind to the right (could be a grapevine). (1-4)
- Repeat coming back 'home'. (5-8)
- Diagonal grapevine forward, to the right (or chasse). (9-12)
- Same, also forward to the left. (13-16)
- A simple 4 x leg curls coming backward - make them jump it! (17-24)
- Box step, right lead (can do this backwards, for variety), or a pivot. (24-28)
- Step-knee raise, to take you onto the left Leg for the first block. (29-32)
Repeat left, right, left
So your timely cues are:
- Step rouch BACK
- Take it forward
- Grapevine or chasse
- Grapevine
- Tap step
- Same on the (left/right)
- Curl it, single single double
- Tap it round
- Grapevine
- Box or pivot
- Showgirl (best if you elevate the voice on this one!)
- Shuffle
- Step touch
- Chasse
- And again
- Grapevine or chasse
- And again
- Curl it back
- Box or pivot
- Step knee raise
Don't forget arm-lines; as it's quite vaudeville in places so you can be as fringe or camp as you like, or just straight-up aerobic form.
And as you can see, if you do the higher intensity version all through this can become quite a chasse-fest!
Hope you likey
Willy
