Been awhile since I last communicated, but I still occasionally raid the moves. Thanks everyone! My user name used to be Yodeling Ordie (yes I still yodel in class), now it is Ordielicious!
Assuming right lead:
Q step: Turn-Straddle-Turn-Straddle-Turn (12) With both feet still on top of bench at the end of the last turn, do a split basic (4). I start them out by stepping off the bench after the last turn, and doing a basic step instead of the split basic. Then I switch to the split basic once they get used to all the turn straddle stuff. I think I stole this from Carole, but thanks to whoever it was!
Gyrocopter: Starting with right foot, do a hop turn into a straddle (you end up facing East), now bring left foot up and do a reverse pivot to bring you back to again facing North. A little tricky at first, but they generally soon get it. I always tell everyone when doing pivots or swings, to do at least a little bit of a hop with the pivot foot to release the load on their leg joints.
The moves are totally tapless, self-reversing. When I say "turn in", you are on the floor, your side is to the bench, and you just do a 180 degree turn in towards the bench, on the floor, to face the other way, which keeps this tapless. It flows well. Sometimes a turn in is of course sort of automatic, to go to the next move, so I just called it out here where it may not seem obvious.
